Despite being awash with paramilitary criminal organisations, New York has never felt more toothless and dull. My hope for this sequel was that with the core action already perfected, there would be the space to improve on the wider formula, creating a more interesting New York playground. Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 simply has more stuff—a bigger story, more pointless collectibles, sprawling skill trees, and double the Spider-Men. Despite its imperfections and overall lack of side content as well as a rushed third act the gameplay is near perfect in every way possible. The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing.

Marvel’s New York will naturally be hiding lots of enigmatic and rewarding secrets in its streets and skylines, but one thing which has been given a Super Hero glow-up are the suits you can unlock for Miles and Peter. One thing is clear upon comparing Marvel’s Spider-Man to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The latter features a ton more explosive action sequences than you can imagine.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to PC, bringing the superhero action of the critically acclaimed PlayStation title to a new platform and a wider audience. PC players will get the chance to once again take on the role of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, swinging through the open-world streets of New York City. With enhanced graphics and performance on PC, the game offers a stunning visual experience. You can engage in dynamic combat, unlock new suits, and face off against iconic Marvel villains, including Venom.
First hypnotised by the light of the monitor as he muddled through Simon the Sorcerer on his uncle’s machine, he’s been a devotee ever since, devouring any RPG or strategy game to stumble into his path. Though hotfixes are flying thick and fast as I finish out this review, for me the patches have so far failed to tackle frequent crashes to desktop. I find it difficult to diagnose my experience—while others have seen wide-ranging performance issues, for me the game runs smoothly, until it suddenly doesn’t. Without warning, in seemingly undemanding scenes and without any preceding slowdown, the game simply gives up, citing only nonsensical display driver issues.

Eventually, Spider-Man 2’s PC port will be fixed to the point that it will rival or arguably exceed the PS5 version, especially for those with more powerful rigs that can push the game to its graphical and performance limits.

Spider-Man 2 can be played from start to finish with a mouse and keyboard, but some actions feel clumsy with the default controls compared to using a controller. Not only that, but Spider-Man 2 gets a lot out of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, so PC gamers should specifically use a PS5 DualSense controller with the game. It’s serviceable with mouse and keyboard, but enhanced with DualSense.
Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have changed since their previous games, which means how they play has also evolved. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned web-head to their slick moves, there’s plenty to get stuck into. OK8386 is essential to dealing with some of the undodgeable strikes particular enemies use. You can still swing away to escape, but a well-timed parry not only stops the incoming attack but leaves an enemy vulnerable to further damage.
Overall, the game is a phenomenal experience, and its 32 missions are all rich and full of content. At the end of the game’s second act, Peter saves Miles from Kraven before the two Spider-Men face off, as Miles tries to get Peter to give up the Symbiote. Miles defeats Peter and captures the Symbiote before the two of them bring the alien suit back to the destroyed rubble of the April May foundation. This fight concludes the game’s second act and sets up a tense final act, as Peter and Harry are set to face off as enemies. Despite the disappointment, it’s unlikely that any DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would’ve been very exciting. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be exclusively released on PS5 on October 20, 2023 at midnight, local time.
